Lead the work. Understand the stack.
You are a systems designer. Level 4 makes you a practitioner: someone who leads an AI team, runs custom training with measurable impact, and does applied alignment, safety engineering, and red-teaming with a real grasp of what is under the hood. Six to twelve months.
What you can do when you finish
- You have fine-tuned a model and can show the measurable impact
- You have led a red-team exercise
- You understand training-stack internals: attention, mixture of experts, quantization, inference optimization
- You can teach any Level 1 through 3 concept clearly
- You can lead an AI team or an AI initiative
- For companies: applied research stood up, safety program mature, benchmarking across the industry
What is inside
Twelve practitioner modules on the Individual track and eight on the Company track for mature AI organizations, with training, safety, and model-card templates in the shared folder. You will want a software engineering background, access to compute for training runs, and a willingness to read papers. The order matters: understand the training stack before you lead people who work on it.
Where this meets the doctrine: by Level 4 you are the person an Order 3 governance file names as the human reviewer, and the person the escalation rules escalate to. Teaching the lower levels clearly is an exit requirement on purpose: a practitioner who cannot explain the foundation cannot govern it.
How to start
- Deepen your training-stack understanding first. You cannot lead what you do not understand.
- Do a real fine-tuning project with a measured before and after.
- Build the safety engineering discipline, then master evaluation.
- Then lead: team, initiative, or program.
